With a compact, super lightweight chassis design that fits in the palm of your hand, the UBZ-LJ9 is designed for ultimate carrying comfort. Despite its size, it still manages to squeeze in an illuminated DOT matrix display, making it easy to navigate across 32 available channels to speak to different users and groups.
 
Making a transmission couldn’t be simpler. No need to listen to a dial tone and wait for the other user to accept – just hit the push-to-talk (PTT) button and speak, and everyone connected to your chosen channel will hear you. Even if your hands are full, no problem. In VOX mode, the UBZ-LJ9 will transmit your voice as soon as you speak, without needing to press anything at all.
 
In the context of two-way radio, ‘licence free’ means you don’t have to pay for an Ofcom licence to use the pre-programmed frequencies. That’s because the UBZ-LJ9 makes use of the 446 MHz frequency band, which across Europe is designated as the free-to-use public range.
 
While licence-free radio is great for keeping costs down, one setback is that you can often pick up interference from other users on the crowded public airwaves. The UBZ-LJ9 resolves this using Kenwood’s patented Digital Quiet Tone (QT) technology, a selective calling protocol that means only users sharing the same signal tone can hear transmissions.
 
UBZ-LJ9 handsets are compatible with other PMR446 radios, meaning you can quickly integrate the twin handsets into larger call groups.
 
A removable and rechargeable lithium-ion battery provides up to 18 hours use time on a single charge, based on just over one hour 45 minutes total usage transmitting and receiving calls (the rest on standby). A USB-C port provides dual charging options via a USB power supply unit and a power bank, while batteries can also be charged while attached to the handset or separately once removed.
